Summary
Manuscript of the story Sister Anne, written in ink on lined paper. The sheets of paper were grouped into bundles pinned or clipped together, and the whole manuscript tied together with string. The original groupings have been preserved, while the pins and string have been removed. The manuscript was in three distinct bundles of sheets, which are now numbered HIL.R.31.1, HIL.R.31.2 and HIL.R.31.3. These bundles were further divided into groups of sheets pinned together, and these groups have been preserved. This story, Beatrix Potter's version of Perrault's 17th century tale of Bluebeard, was originally intended to be included in The Fairy Caravan, but was cut. Alexander McKay wanted another story for publication in America after The Tale of Little Pig Robinson had appeared in 1930, so the story was reworked and was published in America in 1932.
