Print, engraving, Grace Darling and her Father Going to the rescue of the Forfarshire after James Wilson Carmichael (Newcastle-upon-Tyne 1800 - Scarborough 1868) and Henry Perlee Parker (Dvenport 1795 - London 1873). Grace assisting her father in the rowing boat on its way to the vessel the Forfarshire which has gone aground on rocks. The sea is stormy and the sky is threatening. The Longstone Lighthouse is in the background to the top right. Grace Darling and Her Father – Rescuing the Nine Survivors of survivors of the Forfarshire Steam Ship trading between Hull and Dundee wrecked off the Fern Islands Sept 7 1838. An historic record of female heroism inspired by humanity painted from life and from sketches made upon the spot.
