Summary
Cope of blue silk brocade the pattern woven in gold metal thread. Orphrey of alternating square panels, green silk damask and ivory silk embroidered in gold thread. Embroidered panels have a rose at the centre over a sunburst. Morse of ivory silk embroidered with the sacred monogram IHS (Jesus Hominum Salvator: Jesus Saviour of Men) worked in gold metal thread embroidery. Shield shaped hood with gold metal thread embroidery- Virgin and child on sunburst. Orphrey and morse edged with silk and metal thread braid. Cope lined with greenish gold silk/cotton damask. Hem trimmed with block coloured silk/metal thread fringe in green and gold. Label “Duke of Newcastle” (7th Duke commissioned Chapel 1886-1889, including many sets of magnificent vestments).
