Summary
Print, engraving, Powis House, Ormond Street, London: 1754 by Sutton Nicholls (fl.1680-1740). Folded print POWIS HOUSE / IN ORMOND STREET. (both in banners at top of print) Published according to Act of Parliament 1754 for Stones Survey. Façade of the building from beyond the iron gates to the forecourt; Corinthian pillasters across front, ballustrade at top, a few elegantly dressed figures in forecourt. Built for the 2nd Marquess Powis, it then became the French Embassy and was burned in 1713. It was then rebuilt in the grand style by the French. From 1764-1783 it was the Spanish Embassy, and was demolished at the end of the 18th century.
