Paper label on back reads; WELBECK 5956 / FRANCIS and CO / Picture Frame Maker and Gilders / 25 HIGH STREET , MARYLEBONE / London.W.1. Geoffrey Dawson (originally George Geoffry Robinson) was newspaper editor of The Times from 1912 until 1919 and later 1923 to 1941. He worked in the Colonial Service under Lord Milner in South Africa. Dawson corresponded with Canon and Mrs Crawley (Canon of Windsor) whose letters are in the care of the Historical Manuscripts Commission. Mrs Crawley, née Anstice Katherine Gibbs (1881-1963), was the sixth of Antony Gibbs' ten children.
