Summary
Large trunk, rectangular shape, frame made from a thick cardboard material?, with brown canvas covering and wood and metal reinforced edges and along the centre. There is a leather handle at either side and two brass buckles/ locks on either side at the front. The inner lining is made from paper and has blue and white horizontal stripes. There is a maker's label on the inner top centre, in black and silver, which reads 'Peter Robinson Ltd. Trunk and Bag Department, London'.
Marks and inscriptions
On left handle on label: Reads 'The Countess of Caledon Tynan Station G.H?.R.I? via Heyslem ? + Belfast ?? Goods Carriage Forward'. On both sides of trunk, below handle: Reads 'C' . Left hand side below handle: Majority of label has become removed. Can read 'fast (possibly from Belfast', and 'via Heysham'. Few other letters included but no words. Right hand side below handle: Majority of label has become removed. Can decipher printed text reading: '[Ad]dress:' And handwritten text on the label reading: 'Caledon, Tynan Stat' and 'Goods'.
