A black and white print with cream mount and within wooden frame. Title reads 'A lark with the Rangers', dated 1848. Depicts a jovial scene inside a house with a Captain on his horse, jumping over the Drawing Room table, surrounded by eight gentlemen. On the bottom centre of the mount there is an inscription which reads 'A Lark with the "Rangers" Captain E.H. Maxwell's mare. Light o' love, being led into the room, was mounted by Mr Bailey, and actually jumped across the mess table- good four feet and a half- without a touch, landing light as a bird, on the floor; beneath which lay a wine cellar of from 10 to 20 feet deep! - Performing so daring a Hop in the presence of Messrs. O.W. Mason, C.F. Nash, F.D. Day, and John Hickson, to whom, as well as to the Officers of the 88th Reg. this plate is dedicated. Feby. 1848.
