Full description
Percussion rifle, c1840, by Tipping & Lawden, London (1837-54). Rifled octagonal iron barrel of Damascus twist construction, with engraved barrel tang. Under-rib with 2 ramrod pipes (both missing). The muzzle with a blade fore-sight and the breech with a 3 folding leaf rear-sight, marked 100, 200 and 300. The breech top engraved, TIPPING & LAWDEN, LONDON. Retained to the stock by 1 barrel-slide. Barrel length 81cm. Calibre 17.5mm. Walnut half-stock, chequered at the wrist. Engraved iron furniture comprising; butt-plate, trigger guard with finger piece, circular butt-trap with hinged cover, and 1 ramrod pipe. The ramrod missing. Percussion lock, of flat form, engraved TIPPING & LAWDEN. Retained to the stock by 1 side-nail. Overall length: 122.5cm
