Summary
Bronze, L'amour légitime, cast from a model by Edouard Drouout (Sommevoire 1859 - Paris 1945), France, c. 1900. A patinated bronze figurine of a winged cupid, representing matrimonial love, holding in the proper right hand a contract of marriage, inscribed in the maquette 'Contrat de mariage', and in the proper left hand, held behind the back, a pair of manacles with chain. Cupid's bow and quiver rest on the floor. Inscribed in the maquette 'Drouot' behind bow and quiver. Mounted on a socle of rosso antico marble. Paired with NT 207281.
Provenance
Part of the Bambridge Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Mrs Elsie Bambridge (1896-1976)
