Summary
Red leather slip case or book cover, gilt embossed 'Kim', 'Rudyard Kipling' and rose motifs on spine. Made by Riviere and Son. Note with the case - This case once contained a paperback copy of Kim, with the mark of a bullet across it. It was carried in the pocket of a French soldier throughout the 1914-1918 war and by deflecting the bullet was the means of saving his life. After the war he sent the book to R.K., who, acknowledging it, said that he would keep it until the soldier had a son, when it should be returned to him. This was duly done, and is the reason for this case being empty.
