A pine pew, English, mid- to late 19th century. Removed from St. Andrew's Church, Wimpole. The back of two rectangular fielded panels behind a plank seat. The shaped ends with integral lower arms with flattened arch tops.
Provenance
A larger set of these pews appear in a postcard, circa 1925, of the Chicheley Chapel in St. Andrew's Church, Wimpole. The Chicheley Chapel is 14th century in origin, but was modified in the 1740s and again in the 19th century. These pews were removed from the Chicheley Chapel by Elsie Kipling, Mrs George Bambridge (1896 - 1976) after World War II. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Elsie Bambridge.
