Summary
One of a pair of simulated rosewood window seats, English, 19th century. Painted with gilt lines and foliated scrolls. Of X' form, the curving seat probably originally of cane, now upholstered in green plush with braid edging. On four downswept legs joined by a pair of turned stretchers, and with small ball feet.
Provenance
Listed in the Inventory of Wimpole taken in 1965 on the East Wall of the Vestibule. Date of acquisition not recorded, but probably acquired by George Bambridge (1892 - 1943) and Elsie Bambridge (1896 - 1976), who purchased a largely empty Wimpole in 1938. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Elsie Bambridge.
