Summary
White marble sculpture, Albinia Anne Gibbs (1853-1874), aged 10 by Lawrence MacDonald (Tayside 1799 - Rome 1878), inscribed on the oval base: L Macdonald Fecit Romae 1863. A carved white statuary marble figure of a standing girl with a flower and a dove. The sitter was the youngest daughter of William Gibbs (1790 - 1875) and Matilda Blanche Crawley-Boevey (1817 - 1887).
Provenance
Commissioned by William Gibbs (1790 - 1875) during his visit to Rome in 1862; purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002
