Summary
Flat-bed Trolley or Dray (locally known as a Sprung Lurry or Lorry) This horse-drawn flat-bed trolley or dray was a general-purpose road vehicle for the carriage of a wide range of goods. Its undercarriage is sprung for greater support and it has a block brake mechanism to its rear wheels. The name of its maker, R. Nunns of Bingley, forms part of the detailed paint work on the tailboard. The vehicle was last owned by J H Wright of Morton, near Bingley, West Yorkshire whose details are painted on both sides of the dray. Mr Wright farmed at nearby Micklethwaite. Probably early 20th century in date, and a good example of a colourful vehicle painting tradition locally, the dray was used on the roads into the age of the motor car, for which a licence plate UWU 63 was added below its tailboard as evidence of registration.
