Summary

A mid-Victorian oak hall stand, the central section attributed to James Plucknett, the outer sections by Collier and Plucknett. The central arched cresting decorated with a carving of the Gibbs' achievement, above a gallery of trefoils flanked by uprights surmounted by leaf-wrapped finials in the form of fleur-de-lys. The central section cornice elaborately carved with Tudor roses along a branch, above a pair of doors carved with panels of vines, hops, roses and berries below roundels of clover, ivy and other plants, enclosing two shelves. The lower section flanked by downswept uprights carved with two roaring beasts, above a fern-carved cornice and a pair of doors with panels of quatrefoils carved with winged chimerae, one issuing hops, the other roses. The wings have coved upper sections above coat and hat hooks and quatrefoil panels, with stick stands of turned metal compartments. The furthest outer sections each contain a bevelled mirror flanked by columns with foliate capitals, surmounted by a pediment enclosing a roundel with, at the left end, the monogram of MBG and at the right end, the date 1878.
