Summary
Rug - Susani bokhara. Second half 19th Century. Plain field embroidered in coloured silks with three stylised sprays at one end. Deep border on three sides worked with large floral roundels in rust red and magenta, alternating with dark aquamarine saz leaves on natural linen ground. Embroidery design markings in Indian ink still visible. Ground comprises six joined strips - 300mm, 290mm, 140mm, 290mm, 290mm, 300mm. Marked top left in Indian ink; No 15 / ML. Small label attached reads; M.L. Chand and Sons / Edwards Gate / Peshawar City. Oriental textile.
