Summary
Frontal - Altar superfrontal in cream silk brocade, used for high festival days. Linen ground with embroidered front panel of cream brocade heavily decorated with passion flowers, pomegranates, ivy leaves and crosses. Larger motifs outlined with couching in gold thread. Embroidered panel measures 1220mm x 2050mm. Plain linen cloth covers top of altar, with attached surround of brocade with braid and fringing. Linen is stained and marked, with small hole. Hand turned rear hem 140mm, side hems 5mm. Dark red braid (50mm x 1920mm) woven with two motifs - one of initials (possibly IHS) and the other of clover leaves surrounding a circle with a central quatrefoil. Silk fringe 30mm deep, striped in 10mm wide bands of dark red, peach, cream, pale grey, olive, purple, coffee and ecru. Brown ties to secure at back of altar.
