Summary
Part of the neck around the dowel with traces of hair and cheek, part of the back of over life-size male head recomposed from three fragments. Roman version (second century AD?) of the Dresden Youth or similar ephebe. The general shape of the head and the locks recall Roman period copies of statues of the late 5th c. BC and early 4th c. BC. These have been given modern names such as the 'Westmacott Youth', the 'Dresden Youth', the 'Idolino', and the 'Narcissus'. All represent 13 to 15 year old youths with tousled hair. The Downhill head most closely resembles the Dresden Youth.
