Summary
Black painted tin hatbox containing a pith helmet. The box has a dome-shaped lid with carrying handle at top and hinge at front edge. Painted in cream on lid and partly obscured by a paper label is; IRISH / A.D. CORPS. There are various paper labels stuck to sides of the box. Some are torn. There are two red labels with white text which read; AFFIX A LABEL TO EACH END OF THE PACKAGE / WANTED ON VOYAGE (Particulars below to be inserted in BLOCK CAPITALS) / Name of Passenger (Handwritten in blue ink) COL. E. C. IRISH / Name of vessel (Handwritten in blue ink) DILWARA / Port of Embarkation (Handwritten in blue ink) SINGAPORE / NO PACKAGE TO EXCEED 3 FT (indistinct) / 2 FT IN WIDTH AND 2 FT IN. There is also a British Railways carriage paid ticket and another; BAGGAGE / SERVICE / label from / DAVIES, TURNER and CO. LIMITED. Tied to the carry handle are two card labels. One reads; MILITARY BAGGAGE / TO - (Rank) COL, E. C. IRISH / Unit R.A.D.C. / C/o Military Baggage Master / For S.S. DILWARA / SINGAPORE. The other label is handwritten and reads; Tin box with 3 Uniform Caps etc. belonging to the late / Colonel E. C. Irish (d 1977) / Royal Army Dental Corps. / Gift from his widow. Inside the lid of the box is a circular paper label which is red with gold lettering and reads; F.P. BAKER and CO. LTD. / GOLDEN SQUARE, LONDON W1 / ESTABLISHED / 1865 / BOND COURT / NAVAL and MILITARY / OUTFITTERS.
