Summary
Highly glossed self-portrait, Shaw, being the version published in Popular Photography c1944-1945 but taken 1910, see SHAW PHOTOGRAPHS/1/5821 for 1910 print [the date on this version refers to the re-printing of the image]. Taken with a Telephoto lens, giving the effect that Shaw is 'emerging' from the dark. The print has been prepared for publication. Surface marks visible on print. White border to print. Verso: measurements and magazine stamps including date passed for publication [21 Sep 1944] and a second date [Feb 1945] and 'Self-portrait of GBS taken through a telephoto lens.' in GB Shaw's hand with same statement typed.
Provenance
The Shaw Collection. The house and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) together with George Bernard Shaw's photographic archive.
