Summary
Railway locomotive. A 1ft. 10 3/4in. (578mm.) gauge outside-framed 0-4-OST steam locomotive 'Charles' built by Hunslet Engine Co., Leeds, No. 283 in 1882. The locomotive is fitted with a cab and has two steeply-inclined cylinders secured to the sides of the smokebox. The cylinders are 10" x 12" and the driving wheels are 2'1" diameter on a 5' wheelbase. The locomotive has a brass dome cover and is painted black, lined in light blue and red. A large headlamp and a white bucket are carried on the front. The locomotive was one of three similar locomotives used on the main line between the Penrhyn slate quarry and Port Penrhyn.

Placed on permanent loan to the National Trust in 1963 by Penrhyn Quarries Ltd.
