Summary
Ivory, Lohengrin (The Swan Knight), German School, 19th century. A figure shown standing with shield (on which is a swan crest), holding sword, and with a swan at his feet, beak raised looking up. Figure wearing a full length cloak draped from right shoulder, doublet with belt over a chain mail body suit. Wearing a helmet top with a small swan with wings raised. Figure standing on circular ivory base.
Provenance
purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the NHMF, the Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002
