Summary
Bloomers. White cotton bloomers with embroideire anglaise. 'MW' stitched in red thread at back. Made by Maud Williams, last Housekeeper for Tredegar House. Worked for Courtenay, Evan and John. Maud was once surprised in the Housekeeper's Room by 'Alice', Evan Morgan's bear. She heard shouting but thought people were calling for 'McTavish' - Harry Ware's dog. The Butler, Mr Sloman, once proposed to Mrs Williams; he was refused. Maud lived in the flat above the Housekeeper's Room.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
