Summary
Drawing. A black and white drawing on paper, of a full-length portrait of Sir Thomas Morgan (1604-1679) by Copplestone Warre Bampfylde (Taunton 1720 - Hestercombe 1791). Wearing cavalier-style clothes, turned to the right, left foot forward, his right hand resting on his hip, above his sword hilt, his left hand leaning on a cane, foliage and rocks in the background. Mounted in cream, within a black, rectangular, glazed frame. There are lots of losses to the right hand edge, and a chip to the left hand top corner.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
