Summary
Sharpening steels. A set of six sharpening steels, of various sizes. One with dark and curved, pointed and ridged bone handled, by W & H. One with bulbous, dark brown wooden handle and round hand protector, by Wade Wingfield. One with bulbous bone handle, black at the top and beige at the bottom, with circular hand protector, by Johnson & Co. One with black, bulbous handle, brass guard and hanging ring on small chain. One with plain, wooden handle and rectangular guard. One with rectangular bone handle and integral guard.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
