Summary
The Tredegar Salt. An Elizabeth I bell-shaped salt, parcel gilt, 1598. The salt separates into three pieces. Ball-shaped perforated top with screw fixing and reeded collar, decorated with leaf band and interspersed double fleur-de-lys. Bell-shaped base rests on three ball feet with engraved claws. Slight damage to middle section.

Octavius Morgan Collection; by descent to the Rt.Hon Lord Tredegar. Sold Sotheby's, 24/1/57. Lot 135.Purchased by the Arts Fund in 1996 and given to Newport Museums and Galleries. Currently on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museums and Galleries.
