Summary
Large lens. Photographic/projection? This comprises two four inch convex lenses mounted into a pierced brass collar. The collar has two studs near each edge which slot into angled slots in the two brass rings that hold the lenses into the collar. The angle of the slots allowed the lens to be tightened into position. Unfortuanetly, wear has resulted in the studs and slots being somewhat less effective than they would have been. No BFI no.
Provenance
Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986
