Summary
A stereoscope made by Martinet. The body is wooden, believed to be Chinese. The internal surfaces are polished whilst externally it is black with engraved decoration. The twin lenses focus on the frame which can be set in a range of positions. There is also a large single magnifying lens. The main plane bearing the optical system can be set at three different angles using a prop on the underside. The fittings are brass. A metal label on the main plane reads ' Ancienne Maison Martinet 172 Rue de Rivoli'. The prop has a star logo engraved with the wording 'Marque de Fabrique'

Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986.
