Summary
A Kodak wooden rollfilm holder camera back with an integrated dark slide made by Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, New York, USA. The device is for holding a paper roll for producing a negative and is suitable for attaching to any camera with a standard back. At the back of the wooden holder is a metal turn key to advance the paper negative and two brass dials: a frame counter and a frame marker. The front of the holder has two brass circular spool fixings and the no. '286' is stamped centrally in the wood. On either side of the holder are brass hinged plates which are fixed to the lid with three small screws. Removing the screws allows the lid to be removed and reveals the wooden measuring roller, feed spool and take-up spool inside. On the top of the lid is a small brass plate engraved: "Made by the Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, N.Y., USA, pat'd May 5, 1885" The base of the holder has an attached wooden dark slide holder with removable wooden slide which has a small leather pull tab.
