Summary
A J. Lizars 'Challenge' folding field camera. The camera has a polished wood body with brass fittings, dark brown leather bellows, and a tan leather carry strap. There is a ground glass view finder hinged to the back (which can be inverted above the camera) and slots for 4 3/4 x 6 1/2 inch plate sizes (1-6). A brass lined ring on base takes a tripod fitting. 'Challenge' lens on wooden mount with shutter release cog (and cord) on left hand side and brass dial to adjust aperture setting, f-stops marked from 8, 11, 16, 22, 35, 45. Shutter speeds are marked around cog on right hand side of camera (1/15 - 1/90). Other markings: No. 15707 and 'Sold by J. Lizars, Optician, Glasgow' is engraved on lens.
