Summary
"Le Merveilleux" quarter plate folding field camera by J. Lancaster. Camera is woooden with brass ittings and dark brown fabric bellows. Brass lens and lens cap with no markings.Screw in fitting with aperature. White enamel plate printed with "J. LANCASTER & SON IRMINGHAM" above lens and on top ""Le Merveilleux" PATENT" above a tiny brass shield shaped plate (scratched so engraving illegible). Canterlevered hinged focusing screen to rear allows two positions for the dark-slide (landscape, portrait) which is retained by circular plates. 1880-1905
