Summary
A monochrome gelatine silver print by Hay Wrightson in portrait format depicting a half-length portrait of Brigadier S. D. Verna in dress uniform with turban and white gloves. He is wearing a number of medals. The photograph is mounted on white card with a paper cover. There is a printed narrow line border around the image on the mount. Markings: Outer cover: printed in brown ink: a crest, beneath which is: "Photographer by Appointment to her Majesty Queen Mary, Hay Wrightson, 41 New Bond Street London W1" Recto: handwritten in pencil along the bottom edge: Hay Wrightson, London. Verso: "Photographer by appointment to Her Majesty Queen Mary, H.M. The King of the Hellenes. Hay Wrightson F.R.S.A., A.R.P.S., Hay Wrightson Limited, 41 New Bond St, London, W1, Telephone Mayfair 2637. To order further copies please quote number [34697 in pencil] and pose letter [F]" Handwritten beneath this in pencil: "Brig. S. D Verna". Hay Wrightson (1874-1949) was a photographer and owner of the photography firm Hay Wrightson Ltd, the firm continued after the death of Wrightson.
