Summary
Ambrotype depicting a woman seated, holding an infant. The front part of the wooden hinged case is a thermoplastic union case design with maroon leather edges, and the back tray is wood covered in maroon leather, with a hinged clip to secure it closed. The case contains the image plate, a brass mat with curved design and a sheet of cover glass, all of which are in a narrow brass preserver frame (with a rope-like texture) within the velvet lined case tray. The inside left (when open) has a dark gold coloured velvet pad with embossed scroll design. Markings: None. Deterioration: The image has deteriorated so that there is some silver mirroring and reticulation. The leather spine has separated so that it no longer hinges and the two sections are separate.
