Summary
A monochrome gelatine silver photograph in landscape format, depicting a large flower border in the garden at Kircassock House, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. The image is mounted on grey paper and then on dark grey card. The view is of a wide flower border with a path running alongside. In the 1860s, this house was owned by Jonathan Richardson, MP, who employed Alfred Waterhouse to rebuild it in the style of the time. replaced. During WW2, the main house was the headquarters of the 8th US Air Force Composite Command from November 1942. It is believed that Winston Churchill and General Eisenhower both stayed at the house when visiting personnel in Northern Ireland. After the war the site was cleared except for some farmyard buildings. A gatelodge also remains.
