Summary
A book-effect card and wood pamphlet case - labelled T'he Marlborough Pamphlet Case'. The case is made of wood and cardboard covered in glossy paper printed to look like medium-brown wood and there is black fabric binding on the spine and ends. It is in two parts, with a base section holding the images, and a lid with rounded edge, which slides over the top to form the effect of a large book. Underneath the inner section is a ribbon threaded through the case, to enable the inner to be pulled out from the cover. The inside of the lid is covered in glossy black paper; the inner section is lined with cream paper printed with a delicate floral pattern. On the front of the inner section is pasted a white label printed in black ink: "The Marlborough Pamphlet Cases", "Contents", with a section of lines printed for details to be written (left blank). Beneath this is printed a list of the measurements of the various sizes of cases available in the range. At the top of the label in the space for the size number of this case is handwritten in black ink "19". There is a white paper label affixed to the spine with the following handwritten in black ink: "Kircassock, Sorrento, Rome, Medici Villa, Venice & Lagoon, Torcello", and in green ink below this: "Christie-Miller". The case has been used to hold a collection of 35 monochrome gelatine silver photographs, mounted on heavy card. Part of the Christie-Miller collection; photographs taken by Charles Wakefield Christie-Miller (1877-1976).
