Summary
A large mounted reproduction monochrome silver gelatine bromide photographic print of Transport of the 'Bavaria' by Alois Löcherer (1850), a Calotype with original image size 305 mm x 255 mm. The portrait format image is the first photo-reportage ever made and shows men around a wooden wagon with the huge torso section of the bronze statue of 'Bavaria'. One man is climbing a ladder against the statue and two others are ascending it with a rope. The man in the top hat is the sculptor, Ludwig von Schwanthaler and the man holding a hat is the caster, Ferdinand von Miller. The surface and colour of modern gelatine bromide papers were matched to closely resemble the colour and surface texture of the 19th century original. This enlargement is made from a copy negative taken from the original print.
