Summary
Gelatine silver dry glass plate negative in portrait format, depicting a painted portrait of a woman, signed by R. Jack and dated 1906. Richard Jack (1866-1952) was a painter of portraits, figure subjects, interiors and landscapes, and prominent war artist for Canada. There are serious signs of deterioration, particularly cracking, lifting and flaking of the emulsion. The plate is English half plate size: 6½" x 4¾" (120 mm x 165 mm) Gelatine dry glass plate negatives were in use between 1880 and 1925. Vernon Family images from 1900-1917; Father, Capt. Sydney Rutty Vernon retired to Dyers Leaze, Lacock in 1954. He died 26 Dec. 1961. Married in 1900 Miss Janet Elizabeth Foster ('Jef'), and had four children, Thelma, Denis, Esme and John.
