Summary
Colour archival pigment print by Laura Hartford in landscape format - part of her "Like a Weed" series. It depicts a cross-sectional view of the ground with a boy (her son) lying underground beneath a grassy mound. He is lying amongst roots and above him are numerous lights, set into the soil. There is blue light in the sky above, with silhouettes of trees and bird. The image has a white border. Markings: Verso: Handwritten in pencil: "Hartford 2012/13". In Laura Hartford's own words: "Like a Weed" is an on-going series of color photographs of my son Jake, which began in 2002 when he was six years old. I construct sets for him in my studio with lumber, plants, fabric, paper, paint, dirt, photographs and other materials. The work is a personal reflection on parenting and the prevalent metaphors linking maternity with the fecundity of nature."
