Summary
Colour archival pigment print by Basil Pao, in landscape format, depicting a half-length portrait of a woman carrying a small child on her right hip, in Tabelot, a village in the Tenere Desert, Niger. The print is mounted on heavy white card and has a wide white border. The woman is wearing a dark blue headscarf wound round her head, with the long end hanging over her shoulder. She wears a necklace of small coloured beads. In her left hand she is holding up a small woven basket with pedestal stand. Markings: Recto - handwritten in pencil in the white border beneath the image: "Tabelot, Tenere Desert, Niger". This image was taken in 2002 for the Michael Palin series "Sahara". Basil Pao Ho-Yun is a Hong Kong-based photographer. He has been the stills photographer on the BBC filming teams that made Michael Palin's television travel programmes.
