Summary
A gelatine silver photograph in landscape format, depicting a half length seated portrait of Queen Mary. She is sitting at a decorated writing desk facing partly to the right, holding a pen in her right hand. There are a number of items on the desk including a lamp and an inkwell. She is wearing a light coloured blouse and strings of pearls and appears to be sitting on a fur coat on a patterned chair. The image is mounted on white paper (now discoloured), which is itself mounted on heavy white card. (There is damage to the bottom left hand corner of the card mount). Markings: Recto: Handwritten in pencil, bottom left hand corner, "Hay Wrightson": bottom right hand corner, "London". Verso:H andwritten in pencil, "Photograph taken in March 1947" and signed "Hay Wrightson". There is also a white printed label attached, "Photographer by appointment to Her Majesty Queen Mary and H.M. The King of the Hellenes. Copyright portrait by Hay Wrightson F.R.S.A.,A.R.P.S.
