Summary
A chromogenic print featuring 14 numbered images of interesting watches from the Francis Mallett collection mounted individually on white card. Two are in colour and are mounted on grey card, either side of a central legend. Markings: Recto, Typed in red and black ink, "Some interesting watches from the Francis Mallett collection. 1a.b.c. Gold and crystal watch made for Queen Elizabeth, maker George Smith, London. 1d. Silver gilt outer case for same. 2. Cruciform watch in silver case. Circa 1610. Movement by Henry Terold, Bury St Edmunds. 3. Dutch watch, the silver case in the form of a skull. Circa 1660. 4a.b.c. Watch in engraved silver case, inside are the arms of Henry Prince of Wales, eldest son of James I, the movement signed David Ramsay, who was the King's watchmaker and the first Master of the Clock Makers' Company. 5a.b. French watch in gold enamelled case Circa 1645. Movement by Fonnereau of La Rochelle. 6. Watch in spherical gilt case. German Circa 1535. The earliest recorded watch complete with its original (iron) works. 7a.b. Watch in gold pierced and enamelled case. Circa 1660". Handwritten in pencil in bottom lefthand corner, "1087". Verso: Handwritten in pencil top lefthand corner "5001 section E or F" Handwritten in black ink, central, "Collection of Watches. Elizabeth Mallett, Longwood, Combe Down, Bath" Printed in black in a gold label: "The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. Accepted and hung at the annual exhibition london 1937".
