Summary
An ambrotype one-sixth-plate image depicting a half-length studio portrait of a Victorian woman in cape, bonnet and dark gloves, seated next to a table covered with a cloth. The image appears to have been hand coloured - there is very pale pink on her face and a pale blue on her bonnet ribbons. The image is set in a brown leatherette-covered wooden case lined with red velvet, with a thin metal hanging loop at the top. As this was intended for hanging, there is no cover. It is set behind glass which is beneath a decorative oval brass mat. There is a rectangular decorative narrow brass preserver.
Provenance
Donated on 11 July 2017 to the Fox Talbot Museum by Mr G. Stamp, London.
