Summary
A hand-coloured ambrotype quarter plate image depicting a full-length studio portrait of two young Victorian girls standing either side of a small table, each resting an elbow on the table. The table is draped in a floral tablecloth and has books and a small vase of flowers on it. The backdrop has a stone column on the left and sky which is painted pale blue. The girls' dresses are also painted blue. Some pale pink colouration has been added to skin and parts of the tablecloth. The image is set in a wooden case covered in maroon leatherette and lined with brown leather. The top edge of the frame is missing. It is set under glass, over which is a plain brass mat, with an arched top. There is a narrow brass preserver. Condition/deterioration: The top side of the case is missing with just the leather lining still attached and hanging loose. The brass preserver is very tarnished.
