Summary
A daguerreotype one-sixth plate image depicting a three-quarter-length studio portrait of a young woman seated, holding a book on her lap in her left hand. She is wearing a dress with a large check pattern and has a watch on a long neck-chain. There is a draped table in the background on the right and what appears to be a painted backdrop of trees in the distance. The image is set behind a gold painted glass mat, with rounded top corners and square bottom corners. There is a rectangular cover glass. These elements are set in a maroon leather case with an inner border of maroon velvet. The case has two swing pin closures on the right, and the lid is lined in red velvet. The lid hinges on the leather covering. This daguerreotype has no brass preserver and so is likely an earlier example.
Provenance
