Summary
A Daguerreotype one-sixth plate image depicting a three-quarter-length portrait of a woman sitting faced slightly to the side. Her left hand is resting on a table, and her right is on her lap. She is wearing a large dark bonnet, shawl and striped dress. The image is set behind an oval gold painted glass mat. There is a rectangular cover glass. These elements are set in a maroon leather case with an inner border of red velvet. The case has two swing pin closures on the right, and the lid is lined in red velvet. The lid section has become detached from the image section as the leather hinge has broken. This daguerreotype has no brass preserver and so is likely an earlier example.
Provenance
Donated on 11 July 2017 to the Fox Talbot Museum by Mr G. Stamp, London.
