Summary
A monochrome gelatine silver print stereograph of Gorey and Mont Orgueil Castle, Jersey. The image shows in the foreground the Jersey Eastern Railway (that was extended to reach the pier in 1891), with the harbour on the right. Among the houses on the seafront is Cantells British Hotel (which was renamed Lestang's British Hotel in 1905). In the background, perched on the higher ground is Mont Orgueil Castle. The 2 images have square corners and are straight edged, with a space of 2mm between them. They are mounted on card which is light grey on recto and verso. It has rounded corners. The image was quite likely taken by T.H. Pettipher of Oxfordshire, based on similar images in the same set. Markings: Recto - none. Verso. - none.
Provenance
