Summary
A monochrome gelatine silver print stereograph of a view of an old cottage at Finstock, Oxfordshire, taken from across an unmade road. The cottage has 2 doors at the front and has windows front and side. The first floor windows are built into a very steep tiled roof, with a further less steep roof running upto the ridge. There is a large chimney on the left side of the property and a further one extending through the roof further down the cottage. There is vegetation and what appears to be a cylindrical container at the front. A further cottage, of a different style, is at the back of the building. The 2 images have square corners and are straight edged, with no space between them. They are mounted on card which is matt black on recto and brown on verso. It has rounded corners. The image was quite likely taken by T.H. Pettipher of Oxfordshire, based on similar images in the same set. Markings: Recto - none. Verso - pre-printed form in black ink with space for details of the image. These have been left blank. Handwritten in blue ink, "Old Cottage at Finstock".
Provenance
Donated on 5 September 2012 to the Fox Talbot Museum by Mrs Sylvia Warwick.
