Summary
A monochrome gelatine silver print stereograph of a view of the Coronation Dinner 1902, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, taken from an elevated position. It features hundreds of people sitting down for a formal meal at elongated tables, that have been set up along side a road. The tables are decorated with flowers and are set out with crockery, cutlery and glasses. The table numbers can be seen, "30" in the mid ground, and there is a Swiss flag on a table in the foreground. The 2 images have square corners and are straight edged, with no space of between them. They are mounted on card which is matt black on recto and brown on verso. It has rounded corners. The image was quite likely taken by T.H. Pettipher of Oxfordshire, based on similar images in the same set. Markings: Recto - Nil Verso - Handwritten in pencil, "Coronation Dinner 1902".
Provenance
Donated on 5 September 2012 to the Fox Talbot Museum by Mrs Sylvia Warwick.
