Summary
A monochrome gelatine silver print stereograph of a carved choir stall and misericord in St Mary the Virgin, Swinbrook, Oxfordshire. The 2 images, with rectangular top edges, are mounted in a black card frame with rounded corners and there is no space between them. The image shows a 15th century choir stall, which serves as a seat for the reading desk just inside the chancel arch. The desk can be seen on the left of the image, with a light on top. The carvings are diverse: the misericord carving shows a woman with her hands on her knees, while the arm carvings show a human head and a dragon figure. Marking: Verso, written in pencil vertically on the left hand side "Swinbrook Church".
Provenance
Donated on 5 September 2012 to the Fox Talbot Museum by Mrs Sylvia Warwick.
