Summary
A monochrome gelatine silver print stereograph depicting a Miserere at Ripple Church, near Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. The image is of the top of a carved wooden miserere with a 3D carving of a pig killing. The 2 images, with rectangular top edges, are mounted on black card with rounded corners and there is a space of 4mm between them. Markings: Recto: Top left hand corner number 12 in pencil,under that 4 crossed out and then 10 Verso: Handwritten in pen, on the left-handside, "Miserere, Ripple Church, Near Tewkesbury, Pig Killing, T.H.Pettipher". Also handwritten in blue crayon the number 17, and on a small white label the number 4821 is printed. On the right-handside handwritten is "Note the 'artist has a sense of humour,' pig is being hauled by one ear, on two feet, one man carries the stool on which pig will be held while his throat will becut; a basin or pail held under his jaw to catch blood, (used in sausages) -with a little imagination you may hear the squeals all over the parish".Printed in grey is, "PETTIPHER CHIPPING NORTON".
